Obituary

Kathy Ann Wise, of Plainville, Kansas, passed away on September 16, 2026, at Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton Kansas at the age of 76.

Kathy was born on May 12, 1950, to Gene and Mary Lou (Sarver) Brown in Natoma, Kansas. She grew up in Plainville and graduated from Plainville High School in 1968. Kathy began her working career alongside her father at The Gene Brown Company, where she developed her skills in office work. Her dedication and commitment to her work continued throughout the years, eventually leading her to a long career with the City of Plainville, from which she retired.

She married Bob Wise on August 16, 1968. He preceded her in death on July 12, 2019.

The most important thing in Kathy’s life was spending time with her family. She had a wonderful gift for making others laugh and was always finding ways to bring a smile to those around her. Kathy had a generous and giving heart and never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her kindness, wonderful sense of humor, and generous spirit touched the lives of so many and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Kathy enjoyed many of life’s simple pleasures, including gardening, cooking, reading, and playing cards. She loved a good, intense game of Wahoo with her children and grandchildren. Those games were always filled with laughter, competition, and a little bit of yelling. She had absolutely no mercy—she didn’t care who you were family or not; she was there to play and win! Some of our best memories were made gathered around that game board, laughing until our stomachs hurt.

She was a member of Rainbow Girls, Eastern Star 4-H and the Plainville Rescue Squad.

Kathy is survived by her children; Craig (Mindi) Wise, Mike (Charlotte) Wise, all of Plainville, Julie (Arthur) Cole, of Blanchard, Oklahoma; sister, Debra Brown, of Topeka; sisters-in-law, Mary (Wise) Workman, of Natoma, Tonya Wise, of Ellsworth, Kansas, Sharyl Brown, of Hays, Donna Brown of Plainville; 13 grandchildren, Colton (Jaci) Wise, Kristen Wise, Ashley Wise (fiancé Dakota Yost), Dillon Cole (significant other Matt Doud), Paige (Tyler) Peterson, Zeb Cole, Skyler Wise (fiancé Makenzie Oberle), Riley (Megan) Wise, Courtney (Hunter) Kindlesparger, Trinity Wise, Grace, Abby and Sarah (Reyna); 9 great grandchildren with an additional two on the way.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Wise; father, Gene Brown; brothers, Tom Brown, Don Brown and grandson, Brayden Wise.

A Graveside service will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Plainville Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, 4-6 PM at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home in Plainville.
