Katherine "Kate" Brown

November 2, 1945 — October 12, 2017

Katherine “Kate” Brown passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington, Kansas at the age of 71. She was born on November 2, 1945 on the family farm in Russell County, Kansas to the late Henry and Isabelle (Peil) Galliart. She grew up in the Dorrance, Kansas area, graduating from Dorrance High School with the Class of 1963. On August 1, 1964 she was united in marriage to James R. Brown in Russell. They were blessed with a son, Jerald. To say that Kate was a sports fan, would be an understatement. She enjoyed watching any game on TV that she could find, and never missed any of her grandkid’s sports and other activities. While she enjoyed watching, she also wasn’t afraid to let referees, officials, and athletic directors know when they weren’t doing their job properly. For over 50 years, she never stopped working for Shields Oil Production Company in Russell and was an active member of her community, with a special love for the Dorrance Community Betterment Association. Kate is survived by her husband James Brown of the home in Dorrance; son Jerry Brown and wife Ramona of rural Bunker Hill; grandchildren Jake Brown and wife Amanda, and Rhett Brown; great-grandchild Jack Brown; sister Reita Harvey of Little River; nephews David Harvey and wife Jackie of Geneseo, Darin Harvey of Wichita, Danny Harvey and wife Cheryl of Arlington, TX; great-nephews Grant, Peyton, Joseph, Tucker, and Jackson; and great-niece Piper. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Isabelle Galliart, brother Leonard Galliart and his wife Carolyn along with their children Tim and Pat, and brother-in-law Carl Harvey. It has been said, “A fan is one who is marked by excessive enthusiasm and intense devotion.” Kate lived every day of her life with that kind of enthusiasm and devotion for her friends, neighbors, community, and most especially, her family. A true fan, she continues to cheer us on to greatness in this life, until we see her again, in the life everlasting. There will be a visitation from 2:00-4:00pm on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home in Wilson. The family will be receiving friends during that time.
