June Margaret (Carlson) Buttenhoff passed away Sunday, October 16, 2016 at Golden Living Center in Wilson, Kansas at the age of 97. She was born on June 26, 1919 in McPherson County, Kansas to the late John and Helga (Peterson) Carlson. After graduating high school, she went on to attend college for two years. On September 12, 1953 she was united in marriage to George Buttenhoff in McPherson, Kansas. They were blessed with a son, Mark. Along with being the wife of a farmer and stockman, as well as a mother, June worked as a teller at Sylvan State Bank. An avid “collector,” she enjoyed baskets, pottery, sports cards, and Santas. She was also an excellent quilter and loved cooking. In fact her cooking skills took her all the way to the 1961 Pillsbury Grand National Bakeoff in Beverly Hills, California with her award winning apple pie recipe, where she met the then popular movie star, Ronald Reagan. June is survived by her son Mark Buttenhoff and wife Glenda of Sylvan Grove; and grandsons Logan and Layne Buttenhoff, also of Sylvan Grove. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Helga Carlson, husband George Buttenhoff, brother Leland Carlson, and sisters Elsie Doyle, Edith Fletcher, and Lillian Carlson. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Lucas. A private inurnment will follow at a later date. There will be no visitation.
