Judith “Judy” Marie Munsell, 82, of Natoma, Kansas, passed away on June 5, 2025, at her home in Natoma, Kansas. She was born on October 24, 1942, to Jess and Eleanor (Starlin) Thompson in Winfield, Kansas. She married Donald Wayne Munsell on August 1, 1969, in Winfield, Kansas. He preceded her in death on April 3, 2025. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, known for her warm heart, strong work ethic, and talented hands.
Judy grew up and graduated from Plainville High School in 1960 and spent her life contributing to her community in Plainville through a variety of roles. She began her working life at Classic Cable and later served as a paraprofessional for USD 270. She also worked at Rooks County Health Center and Mr. K’s Grocery Store, always known for her kindness and dedication.
Judy had a true gift for crocheting. Her beautiful work touched many lives — from custom name designs proudly displayed on her great-granddaughters’ walls to Christmas stockings lovingly made for every family member. She created countless pieces for others over the years and was always working on something special. Most recently, she had been making an afghan for her great-granddaughter who just graduated high school.
When she wasn’t crocheting or caring for her yard — a task she took pride in — Judy could often be found with a good book in hand. She especially enjoyed reading novels by John Grisham.
Judy’s legacy of love, creativity, and quiet strength will live on in the memories of all who knew her.
Judy is survived by her children, Mike (Connie) Stithem of Stockton, Shelly (Dale) Wilkerson of Zurich, Missy (Jon) Patocka of Kansas City, MO, and David (Keiko) Munsell of Haysville, KS; 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Eleanor Thompson; husband, Donald; brothers, James and Robert Thompson; grandson, Devin DeBey.
