Juanita Gwen Dennett passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Dawson Place in Hill City, Kansas at the age of 89. She was born May 21, 1924 to David Waldene and Vivian Ann (Hanes) Tennyson in Lamar, Kansas. Juanita was united in marriage to Harold E. Dennett on August 4, 1943 and they moved to Palco in 1950. They were blessed with four daughters, Rita, Linda, Denise, and Carol. The oldest of ten, Juanita developed her great parenting skills at an early age as she loved and cared for all of her siblings. All of her life she was an avid reader. She loved books. By the time she had finished her freshman year of high school, she had read every book in the school library and had moved on to the public library. Juanita held a deep love and appreciation for all people, especially her family. She was a true caretaker. From taking time to look and feel her best every day, to making sure that friends and family were loved, nurtured, and encouraged, she took care of herself and others constantly. She enjoyed winters in Phoenix with friends and was an active member on the United Methodist Women. She loved to travel, take cruises, and the presence of any child, but more especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, never failed to brighten her day. Juanita’s memory will be cherished by her husband Harold of the home; daughters Rita Clark and husband Ivan of Morrison, Colorado, Linda Richards and husband David of Clovis, New Mexico, Denise Strausborger and husband Terry of Golden, Colorado, Carol Himbury and husband Rick of Midland, Texas; brothers Lynn Tennyson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Garry Tennyson of Keller, Texas, Norman Tennyson of Newton, Kansas; sister Karen Browning of Gardner, Kansas; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Preceding Juanita in death are her parents, David and Vivian Tennyson; brothers, infant Orville, Duaine Tennyson, Phillip Tennyson, Elvin Tennyson; and sister Wanda Schiefelbein. Juanita was a wise, good-humored, God-fearing, outspoken and immutable woman. She will live forever in the hearts of her family and friends, and although she will be greatly missed, her life and spirit will never be “Gone With The Wind.”
