Funeral services for Darrell O. “J.R.” Cunningham, age 83, of Stockton, will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home in Stockton. Mr. Cunningham passed away Saturday, December 25, 2010 at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton. He was born February 7, 1927 in Phillips Count the son of Darrell SR and Maybelle (Dunlap) Cunningham. J.R. graduated from the Stockton High School and served his country during WWII and in Korea from 1945 – 1946. He was a carpenter in the Stockton area for over 30 years before retiring. J.R. was a life member of the Monroe-Taylor-Barnes V.F.W. Post #8873 and ejoyed woodworking, gardening, cooking, and especially enjoyed watching the PBR. On May 20, 1952, he married Marilyn Garber in Stockton. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his son Douglas Cunningham of Stockton; brothers DeVane and wife Ellen of Stockton, Don and wife Jane of Stockton; and several nieces and nephews; and his honorary grandchildren The Cikanek Children Tara, Tracy, and Trina. His parents preceded him in death. Burial will be in the Stockton Cemetery with military honors provided by the Monroe-Taylor-Barnes V.F.W. Post 8873. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday, and 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hays Medical Center Home Health and Hospice, the Solomon Valley Manor, or the Stockton Fire and Ambulance Service and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
