Joseph William "Joe" Stahl

March 5, 1924 — January 3, 2013

Joseph “Joe” William Stahl passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center in Hays, Kansas at the age of 88 surrounded by his family. Joe was born March 5, 1924 to Adam and Mary (McMullen) Stahl in Rooks County. He attended school in Plainville. Joe played football for the Plainville Cardinals and graduated from Plainville High School with the class of 1942. After high school Joe joined the Army and served during World War II in Japan and the Philippines. He was united in marriage to Marcelline Bissett on November 26, 1946 in Plainville. They were blessed with 7 children. Joe was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and VFW #8871 Reeder-Dinkel-Westhusin. Joe served as a Knights of Columbus Grand Knight from 1953 to 1955. Joe loved farming and would spend many hours at the family homestead which had been home to his parents and grandparents since 1909. He had many skills and the knack for fixing things. He worked as a plumber. He began working for Reed & Cooley and later bought a partnership in the company and continued plumbing until his retirement in 1989. Joe’s wife worked along his side in the business. Marcelline passed away in August 2000. He was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids play football, wrestling, volleyball and baseball, which he so loved. Left to cherish Joe’s memory are his sons Mark Stahl of Hays, Roger Stahl of Dodge City, Greg (Susan) Stahl of Plainville and John Stahl of Plainville; daughter Janet (Bud) Brack of Dodge City; sister Lucille (Alfred) Kuhn of Victoria; 15 grandchildren, Tait (Tania) Stahl, Cory (Christy) Stahl, Brett (Erin) Stahl, Josh (Karen) Stahl, Adam Stahl, Jason Stahl, Codi Stahl, Keli (John) Kimble, Kiva Stahl, Tara Stahl, Tami (Rob) Henry, Traci (Mikey) Goddard, Jamie Stahl, Brooke Stahl and Kyle Stahl; and 28 great-grandchildren. Preceding Joe in death are his parents; wife Marcelline; sons, David and Steven; daughter-in-law Jackey (Prickett) Stahl; and brother Alfred Stahl. Reception: Knights of Columbus Hall
