John Allen Vohs

October 9, 1958 — February 2, 2025

John Allen Vohs, of Plainville, Kansas, passed away on February 2, 2025, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 66. He was born on October 9, 1958, to Donald G. and Florence “Flossie” Ann (Ruhaak) Vohs in Plainville.

John grew up in Plainville and graduated from Plainville High School in 1976. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Fort Hays State University. After College he worked with Pat Hageman on a custom harvest cutting crew. John later worked at the Rooks County Feedlot under Tracy Thompson. John moved to Las Vegas where he worked at Jones Feed and Tack Mill and MC2 before transitioning to a warehouse manager position for convention booths. After some years, he moved back to Plainville where he helped Ron Hrabe at the feed yard and then spent time assisting his brother Larry with farming and feeding cattle until his retirement in 2024.

John had a deep love for the outdoors, often spending time walking in the trees, visiting the creek, and driving through the countryside. He was an avid fan of both the Kansas City Chiefs and K-State football.

John is survived by his siblings, Leonard Vohs of Florence, Montana, Larry Joe (Stephanie) Vohs of Plainville, Mike Vohs of Hays, Ann (Gavon) Smith of Newton, Kansas, Donna (Daniel) Magwire of Elkhart, Kansas and Shelly Dougherty of Plainville; niece, Johnni Hilbrink and numerous other nieces and nephews; two step-nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews and numerous great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two nephews, Nick Cox and Aaron Smith.

John made a remarkable gift to others by becoming an organ donor. He donated his LIVER to a 64-year-old woman on the East Coast, and his kidneys to two women—aged 65 and 64, both in the Midwest.

A man of simplicity, John was grounded and down-to-earth, with a strong sense of routine and attention to detail. John's passing leaves a lasting impact on those who knew him, and he will be remembered fondly for his gentle nature, his commitment to family, and his generous spirit.
