John R. Eland

John R. Eland, age 78, died Friday, November 1, 2013. John was born October 7, 1935 in Garden City, KS to P. N. and Dorothy (Springer) Eland who preceded him in death. John retired after practicing law 42 years in Hoxie, KS, and enjoyed retirement years in Cuchara, CO, until recently moving to Salina, KS. John graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in 1957 and a Juris Doctorate degree in 1959. He was a member of KU’s winning debate team and the moot court team at KU Law School. John served as Sheridan County Attorney, the Hoxie City Attorney, and was a member of the Sheridan County Library Board for many years. John was also a member of the Hoxie Elks Lodge and Hoxie Lions Club. On August 17, 1957, John Married Carolyn (King) Eland who survives him. Other survivors include four children; Ken (Jessica) Eland of Hoxie, KS, David (Allene) Eland of Lenexa, KS, Tod (Tracy) Eland of Salina, KS, and Kay (Joe) Heikes of Olathe, KS; 12 grandchildren, Brad (Laura) and Pat Eland, Korab, Cherys, Noah, and Noelle Eland, Sawyer and Brielle Eland, and Wyatt, Josiah, Cade, and Lulit Heikes Cemetery: Private family inurnment at a later date.
