Joan M. Gilbert

Joan M. Gilbert passed away on September 26, 2018, at the Redbud Village in Plainville, Kansas, at the age of 79. She was born on July 29, 1939 in Lyons, Kansas to the late Paul and Mildred (Sauers) Waterman. Joan grew up in Plainville where she attended Turkville Country School, then Plainville High School where she graduated. Following her high school graduation Joan attended FHSU. On February 15, 1958 she was united in marriage to Robert H. Gilbert of Plainville, Kansas. They were blessed with three children: Brad, Melane, and Michele. In her earlier years, Joan was a homemaker raising her children and family, and later worked as a Program Support Worker for the Department of Children and Family Services. Joan enjoyed cooking, crafts, sewing, and reading. Joan is survived by her husband Robert Gilbert of Redbud Village in Plainville; daughters Melane Gilbert of Great Bend and Michele Hixon and husband Troy of Plainville; son Brad Gilbert and wife Diane of Hutchinson; three grandchildren Samantha Pfannenstiel and husband Brodie of Plainville, Taylor David and husband Kyle of Wichita, and Nick Hixon of Wichita; three great-grandchildren Finn Pfannenstiel, Wesley Pfannenstiel, and Brenna David; and sister-in-law Nell Waterman of Dahlonega, Georgia. Preceding Joan in death are her parents Paul and Mildred Waterman; and brother Ron Waterman. Joan’s warmth radiated so brightly from her heart to everyone she met. Her beautiful spirit will endure forever. We mourn the years that she will not have and we celebrate the time that was hers and the life that she lived. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018, at 10:30 A.M. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. Burial will follow in the Pleasantview Cemetery in Palco, Kansas. Visitation will be Sunday at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home in Plainville starting at 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends 6:30 until 8:00 P.M. and Vigil service at 7 P.M.
