Joan Frances Garvert

Joan Frances Garvert passed away Friday, January 25, 2013 in the Hays Medical Center at the age of 82. She was born November 19, 1930 in Lincoln, Kansas to George and Evelyn (Shephard) Kerns. Joan graduated from Lincoln High School in 1948. She then went on to Brown Mackie College. Joan was united in marriage to Robert Garvert October 19, 1953 in Plainville. She was a member of the Ladies’ Guild and had many hobbies to include crocheting, sewing, quilting, gardening, flowers, playing Pitch, lottery and scratch tickets, sweepstakes and puzzle books. Left to survive Joan are her sons Patrick of Great Bend and Michael of Salina; daughters Gloria Williams of Salina, Connie (Steve) Witte of Cambridge, Nebraska, Nancy Pirwitz of Springfield, Missouri, Sheila Plante of Hays and Annette (Thad) Helmuth of Plainville; sister Lou (Ivan) Anderson of Topeka; 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Preceding Joan in death are her parents George and Evelyn Kerns; husband Robert; brother James Kerns; sisters Donna Andreasen and Sue Mason; and granddaughter Shelley Ann Witte.
