Janice M. Kaba

November 1, 1939 — September 7, 2018

Janice Marie Kaba passed away on September 7, 2018, surrounded by her family, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas at the age of 78. She was born on November 1, 1939 in Hays, Kansas to the late John J. and Regina (Beiker) Jacobs. She grew up in Hays and graduated from Girls’ Catholic High School with the Class of 1958. On October 1, 1960 she was united in marriage to James Kaba in Antonino, Kansas. They were blessed with three children: Vicki, Kim, and John. In her earlier years, Janice worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She was a homemaker while raising her children, and later worked as a teller for First Federal Lincoln Bank in order to help her children through college as that was very important to her. She volunteered often for the school and church and worked many years as a cook for the school as well. Janice enjoyed gardening, especially planting flowers and tending to her roses, baking, and having coffee with her friends. She also loved traveling and watching her grandchildren’s sporting events. Janice is survived by her husband James Kaba of the home in Plainville; daughters Vicki Becker and husband Ken of Plainville and Kim Glazner and husband Bill of McPherson; son John Kaba and wife Kelly of Hays; sister Georgine Fisher of Plainville; eight grandchildren Kurtis Scheck and wife Tara of Piedmont, OK, Jessica Korte and husband Matt of Prairie Village, Rhiannon Weber and husband Nick of Claflin, Kennis Becker and wife Kacy of Plainville, Krista Zahorsky and husband Catlin of Riley; Kassidy Glazner of Chicago, IL, Courtney Kaba of Kansas City; and Conner Glazner of McPherson; and eight great-grandchildren. Preceding Janice in death are her parents John and Regina Jacobs; sisters Alma Leiker, Vera Milke, Betty Werth, and Joyce Jacobs; and brothers Vernon Jacobs and Harvey Jacobs. Janice had a deep love and devotion for her husband, children, family and friends. Second only to her love and faith in God, which was a constant source of strength for her, it also encouraged everyone around her. She will be greatly missed, but the celebration of her life and memories will forever remain. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at 10:00 A.M. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
