Iola Faye (McGuire) Liester passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018, at the Sheridan County Health Complex in Hoxie, Kansas. Iola was born March 16, 1933 at the family home in rural Osborne County to Kenneth and Beatrice (Brozek) McGuire. Beatrice later married Beryl Farber. Iola attended school in Osborne and graduated with the High School class of 1951. On July 4, 1952, she married Clyde Liester Jr. in Osborne, Kansas. They moved to Hoxie, Kansas where they lived and raised their family of four children Julie, Karla, Jerry, and John. Iola worked as a waitress for a short while. She went to work for the City of Hoxie and served as City Treasurer then moved to the City Clerk position until she retired in 1998. After her retirement, Iola continued to be very active until her health failed. Iola and Clyde enjoyed taking their young family fishing. Iola loved to crochet always making something for the family or friends. One of her most favorite things to do was play Bingo. She enjoyed watching TV especially the Bronco Football Team and tennis matches. She was an avid Bowler in her younger years. She bowled on a team and traveled to many tournaments all over Kansas and the United States. Iola was a great cook and candy maker. Iola was dedicated to her family and loved them very much, doing whatever she could to help and support them. Iola is survived by her daughters, Julie Samuelson and husband Dale of Sharon Springs, Kansas and Karla Lucas of Hoxie, Kansas; sons, Jerry Liester of Hoxie, Kansas and John Liester and wife Linda of Hoxie, Kansas; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Liester Jr.; father, Kenneth McGuire; mother, Beatrice McGuire Farber; step-father, Beryl Farber; brother, Gary McGuire; and two grandchildren. A Graveside Service is planned for Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at 10:00 A.M., at the Hoxie City Cemetery. Following the service a meal will be served at the family residence, 1024 Trail Avenue, Hoxie, Kansas. All family and friends are invited to attend the service and meal. There will be no visitation. She leaves for them the memories of good times, good meals, and heartfelt love. She will be remembered and loved for all time to come.
