Hattie Irene (Bedore) Westhusin passed away Friday, October 10, 2014 at her home in Rooks County, Kansas, at the age of 90. She was born on November 1, 1923 in Zurich, Kansas to Octave and Albertine (Benoit) Bedore. She grew up in Rooks County and on August 11, 1941 was united in marriage to Julius Westhusin in Plainville, Kansas. To this union were born two sons, Marvin and John. No stranger to hard work, Hattie was a wife, mother, homemaker, and farmer. From making beds and doing laundry to driving the truck and operating the combine, she took pride in everything she did. As soon as dinner time came around, she would have food on the table or in the field. You could always count on it being good, especially if she had made her famous fried chicken and fried potatoes. But life wasn’t always about work. Hattie knew how to enjoy life, have fun, and take time to dance. There was great joy in tending her garden or waltzing across the floor, but the greatest pride and joy of her life was her grandchildren. All of them. Without exception. Left to remember and pass on Hattie’s life and legacy is her son John Westhusin of Salina; grandchildren, Sheryl, Julius, Deanna, Brandi, Kelli, and Joseph; great-grandchildren, Lyndsay, Sydney, Adam, Savannah, Tripp, Jude, and Bella; and great-great-grandchildren, Amariya, and Bryson. She was preceded in death by her parents Octave and Albertine Bedore, husband Julius Westhusin, son Marvin Eugene Westhusin, brothers Wilbert and Raymond Bedore, sisters Edmy Dougherty, Lena Dix, and Ella Harwood, and grandson Terry. Hattie was a woman of deep love and faith in God, her family, and her friends. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. But her life, her love, and her legacy will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew her best.
