Harry L. Doughty

Harry Lamont Doughty, the youngest child of Charles Roscoe and Velma Katherine (Perkins) Doughty, passed away Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society in Hays, Kansas at the age of 87. He was born on February 20, 1928 at Webster, Kansas. He graduated from the Webster school system in 1947. Harry and Virginia Wallis were married January 1, 1953 in Hill City, Kansas. They were blessed with daughters, Velma Katherine “Kathy,” Kristy, Kelly, and Kenya. Virginia preceded him in death on May 23, 2013. Harry served his country in the Korean War, enlisting November 1, 1950 and was discharged September 20, 1952. In 1957 he enlisted in the Kansas National Guard and retired from the guard in April 1983 with a total of 30 years in military service. At the time of his retirement from the guard he held the rank of 1st Sergeant. Harry was a 40 year employee of KN Energy, Inc., retiring in December of 1993. Harry was a member of the Stockton VFW, a member of the Main Street Christian Church in Stockton and when he and Virginia moved to Hays, a member of the Hays Christian Church. Harry will be missed by his daughters, Kathy Ubert and husband Jerry of Hays, Kristy Newton and husband Craig of Decatur, Texas, Kelly Arpin and husband Dan of Wichita, and Kenya Bright and husband Carlos of Madison, Wisconsin; grandchildren Kevin Ubert, Keith Ubert, Jamie Newton-Pena (Mark), Tyler Newton (Jennifer), Jennifer Thornton, Joshua Arpin, Sarah Arpin, Brock Bright, and Kenzie Bright; great-grandchildren Kynlie Ubert, Justice Pena, Autumn Newton, Kinslee Thornton, Emersyn Pena, and Damon Arpin. Harry was also preceded in death by his parents, sisters Goldie Doughty, Elva Castka-Conn, Dorothy Beckley-Elder, brothers Charles Doughty and Stan Doughty. Harry was a loving husband and father. He was loyal to friends and had a great love of his country as reflected in his military career. Harry was happiest and closest to God when he was working in the garden and yard. He enjoyed sharing the harvest with neighbors and friends.
