Glenn E. “Buck” Keas died on October 19, 2010, at his home in Plainville, Kansas, surrounded by family. He was born on July 8, 1927, on a farm in Twin Mound Township. Aside from two years in the Army, mostly in Korea, he spent his entire life in and around Plainville. Buck was a cattleman, farmer, and retired rural mail carrier, and an active member of the community. He served as a member of the Plainville school board, the board of Rooks County Farm Bureau, the Rooks County Fair board, and on the Plainville recreation commission. He was a member of the Plainville Christian Church. Glenn married Genette Nelson of Codell on September 14, 1949. He always called her the best cook in the county. Together they raised four children and were delighted with the reward of thirteen grandchildren. Each of the grandchildren was sure they were his favorite because of the way Grandad Buck treated them so special. Buck and Genette were happy to add three great-grandchildren to the family in the past two years. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Grace Keas, his brothers, Jakie and Gene, and his son-in-law, Byron Beal. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Genette, and his four children, Margena Worley, Chesterfield, VA, Dena Pederson, McPherson, KS, Doug Keas, Plainville, and Matt Keas, Plainville. He considered the out-laws, Allen Worley, Gary Pederson, Stacey Keas, and Pat Keas, just as special as the grandchildren. Glenn is also survived by his sisters Laverne Bair, Farrell McClay, and Kay Preston, and his sisters-in-law Gena Lee Keas and Geraldine Davenport as well as his brothers-in-law Jim Zeigler and Max McClay. He also will be missed by many friends. Buck enjoyed being out in the country and continued his checks on the cattle until just a few weeks ago. He loved having all the family gathered around the table for a big meal or one of our many card games. His snappy come-backs and comments will always be part of our family memories. The family is very grateful for the support of the staff of Hospice of Hays Medical Center which helped them to care for Buck at home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Church, Plainville. Visitation will be from 9-8 Thursday at the Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church from 9:30 to service time Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Rooks County Health Center or Lakeview Christian Camp and may be sent in care of the Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, 409 S. Cochran, Plainville, Kansas 67663. Condolences may be sent to the family on our send your condolences link.
