Gerald Duane "Rusty" Russell

August 11, 1936 — August 15, 2015

Gerald Duane “Rusty” Russell passed away Saturday, August 15, 2015 at his home in Natoma, Kansas at the age of 79. He was born on August 11, 1936 in Gove County, Kansas to the late Dorothy Russell. He was united in marriage to Darlene Tesmer on November 21, 1966 in Sharon Springs, Kansas. They later divorced. Together they had two children, Gary and Dorothy. Rusty was a hardworking man who spent time in the oilfield on drilling rigs, and heavy road construction with Brown & Brown, Inc. as well as Ritchie Bros., Inc. He enjoyed being outdoors whether he was working or having fun, especially if he could be hunting or fishing. He was also a skilled craftsman and liked working with wood. Rusty had a huge heart. He loved taking care of his dogs and always wanted to make sure the bird feeders were full so the birds had plenty to eat. But above all else, he loved his family and friends the most. His grandchildren were truly the delight of his life. Rusty is survived by his son Gary Russell and wife Amy of Natoma; daughter Dorothy Carr and husband Rodney of Netawaka; sisters Melba Baehler and husband Jim of Sharon Springs, Nelda Marsh and husband Mike of Daytona Beach, FL, and Phyllis Bliss and husband Charlie of Sharon Springs; and grandchildren Zack Racette, Molly Racette-Glassman, Cash Russell, Dylan Jacobs, and Michael Carr. He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Russell, sister Joyce Picha, and brother Leon Burris. For Rusty, life was not just about work, but also taking time to enjoy those closest to him and having fun along the way. He will be greatly missed because he was greatly loved. No one can take his place in the hearts of those who loved him most.
