George Albert Pywell

George Albert Pywell passed away on April 30, 2021 at his home in Zurich, KS at the age of 83. He was born on February 24, 1938 to Percy and Effie (Ouderkirk) Pywell on the family farm in Rooks County near Zurich. George married Carolin Jo Mongeau on May 26, 1959 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Zurich. They were blessed with two children: Bentley and Stacey. George grew up in Rooks County and graduated from Palco High School in 1956. He attended Wichita Technical School for engineering. He then worked for Roths Electronics and KAYS TV station until being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1960. He was discharged in 1962 due to his mother’s passing and returned home to take care of his family. He then worked at the TV station in the control room and farmed for 5 years. George went on to worked in the oil field for BJ Oil, Jim Norton, and Crawford Supply. In 1998 he and his son Bentley started a trucking business, K Bar S Trucking, where he worked until he retired at 80 years old in 2017. George enjoyed his motorcycle club (Spoke Benders), card games, camping, golfing, and watching K-State Basketball and K.C. Chief’s Football; and he cherished spending time with his family. George is survived by his wife Carolin Jo Pywell of the home in Zurich; daughter, Stacey (Chris) Bobek of Denver, CO; brothers, Richard (Carol) Pywell of Zurich and LeRoy Pywell of Wichita, KS; sisters, Florann Young of Boise, ID, Wilma (Dale) Hiser of Cleveland, TN, and Beverly Barr of Nampa, ID; five grandchildren, Kylee Pywell, Dalton Bobek, Shelbe (Tanner) Darnell, Simone Bobek, and Cassidy Pywell; and two great-grandchildren, Theodore and Veronica Darnell. He is preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Effie Pywell; son, Bentley Pywell; sister-in-law, Lois Pywell; brother-in-law, Harry Young; and grandson, Ethan Pywell. George always had a smile on his face and never missed the opportunity to make someone laugh. He knew how to have fun and enjoy life along the way. Life wasn’t always easy, but he took the hand he was dealt and made the best of it. He was very proud of his family, and he always put them first. He would lend a hand to anyone in need. George’s memory will live all through those who knew him. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 10:30 AM at the First Christian Church in Plainville. Burial will follow at the Pleasantview Cemetery in Palco. Visitation will be Wednesday 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home in Plainville.Memorials are suggested to George Pywell Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 320 SW 2nd, Plainville, KS 67663.
