Gaye Lee Wessel was born February 7, 1949 to Norman and Dixie (Warren) Mock in Hays, Kansas. She went to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, May 29, 2012 at her home in Plainville, Kansas at the age of 63. Gaye Lee attended local schools in Plainville and graduated from Plainville High School with the class of 1967. She was united in marriage to John Wessel during her senior year at Plainville. They were blessed with three sons, Donnie, Danny and Chris. In her early years Gaye Lee would cook for a Day Care in Plainville along with being a wonderful homemaker for her family. She loved spending time with family cooking, camping, horseback riding and fishing. Gaye Lee had a special love for her animals, one in particular, Hank her yellow cat that loved her, but no one else. She always looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren. She loved them so much! Gaye Lee was a faithful member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Reader-Dinkel-Westhusin VFW Post #8871. Left to cherish her memory are her husband John of forty five years; three sons, Donnie Wessel and Danny Wessel and Robin of Plainville, and Chris Wessel of Norfolk, Virginia; her father, Norman Mock and wife Vera of Hays; brother, Jerald Mock and wife Beverly of Monticello, Wisconsin; sister, Stephanie Vohs and husband Larry of Plainville; six grandchildren, Krystal, Trevor, Chelsey, Caitlin, Mikayla and Nicholas; three step-grandchildren, Brandon, Devon and Spencer; and three great-grandchildren. Gaye Lee was preceded in death by her mother, Dixie Mock. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2012 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville with Father Joshua Werth Officiating. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A parish vigil and rosary will be Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Humane Society of the High Plains or Sacred Heart Catholic Church and may be sent in care of Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel 409 S. Cochran, Plainville, KS 67663.
