Franklin D. Thayer passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2018, at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, Kansas at the age of 81. He was born on March 6, 1937 to Albert and Nora (DeButts) Thayer in Stockton. Franklin married Devota Byfield and was blessed with two children: Franklin and Angela. They divorced and he later married Nancy (McDowell) Leffel. With this union he adopted Nancy’s two children: Ed and Becky. He and Nancy were later blessed with one child: Cherie. Franklin lived a simple life. He was a veteran and he retired from Shulte Manufacturing in Plainville where he worked as a truck driver. He was a member of Wounded Warriors and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). Franklin enjoyed Nascar, Cribbage and other card games, vegetable gardening, and watching football and old movies. Franklin loved to joke, loved his dog, and loved being with people, especially his friends and family. His wit and humor will be missed by many. Franklin is survived by his children Franklin Brown of Stockton, Angela Veatch and husband Randy of Hutchinson, Cherie Garcia of Frazier, CO, and Ed Thayer of Stockton; brother Michael Thayer; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Franklin is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Nora; wife Nancy; daughter Becky Wiess; brothers Albert Thayer, Austin Ray Thayer, and Earl Thayer; and sisters Loeta McCall and Norene Thayer. A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018, at 2:00 P.M. at the Stockton Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
