Frank Allen Karnes

Frank Allen Karnes passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at his home in Colby at the age of 85. He was born September 3, 1928 to Oscar A. and Elma (Voyles) Karnes in Bowcreek Township in Sheridan County, Kansas. Frank attended elementary school at the Bowcreek School and graduated from Sheridan Community High School with the class of 1946. He was united in marriage to Darlene Stevens on July 12, 1953, in Hoxie. They were blessed with two sons, Roy and Keith. Frank and Darlene resided in Hoxie until 2006 when they moved to Colby. Frank enjoyed his family. His sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were a source of great pride to him. One of the things he loved doing was teaching his sons to hunt and fish. He was an avid hunter himself. He took great pleasure in camping and fishing with all of his family. He even built his own campers. Frank was a farmer. He also worked for Getz IGA and Arnold Electric. At Arnold Electric, he worked on Tri-flexes and irrigation motors. Frank was a faithful member of the Hoxie Christian Church, and he served as a Cub and Boy Scout Master while his boys were growing up. He is survived by his wife Darlene; sons, Roy and wife Loretta of Grainfield, Keith and wife Sharon of Leoville; brothers, James Karnes and wife Phyllis of Loveland, Colorado and Gerald Karnes and wife Charlene of Salina; six grandchildren, Karen Maier and husband Eric, Jackie Flemming and husband Josh, Russell Karnes and wife Amanda, Mary Glick and husband Darin, Mark Karnes, and Becki Karnes; seven great-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Elma; one brother, George Karnes; and two sisters, Dorothy Karnes and Gladys Breeden. Frank was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family very much, and he will be ever present in their memories. Reception: Hoxie Christian Church
