Evelyn Elizabeth (Ney) Charvat passed away peacefully November 10, 2014 at the age of 103 in her granddaughter’s home in Wilson, Kansas where she had been residing since April. She was born December 11, 1910 on a farm southwest of Cawker City, Kansas to Jake and Emma (Vohs) Ney. In 1918 she moved with her parents to a ranch southwest of Dorrance, Kansas. Evelyn graduated from Dorrance High School with the Class of 1929. She went on to attend the Colleges of Fort Hays State, Kansas State, and Colorado State. She taught at various country and town schools during her lifetime, those being: Rolling Prairie School, Driscoll School, Barton County School, Harvey Gage School, and Dorrance and Wilson Grade Schools. During World War II, she was Principal of the Dorrance Grade School and coached the boys basketball team. On December 29, 1952 she married Frank Charvat, a widower with a 2 year old son. Evelyn enjoyed gardening, cooking and sewing all of which she did well. She was an avid reader and enjoyed following sports teams through the newspapers. Survivors include her son LeeRoy Charvat and wife Rose of Wilson, granddaughter Dr. Nicole Bachman and husband Dr. Byron of Wilson, grandson Jacob Charvat and wife Amy of Wilson, nine great-grandchildren and niece Sylvia Lilak of Wilson. She was preceded in death by her parents Jake and Emma Ney, husband Frank Charvat, sister Irene Schneider, and nephew Norman Schneider.
