Evelyn Eileen Bretz passed away on Tuesday June 9th, 2015 at the Sheridan County Health Complex in Hoxie, Kansas. She was born May 6th, 1925 in Lane County, Kansas to Pete and Retta May (McClelland) Eitel. She attended grade and high school in Dighton, Kansas graduating in 1943. After high school she worked at the telephone company in Dighton as a switchboard operator, began dating the love of her life, and patiently waited for him to return from his service in the Navy. On January 2, 1947 she married Frank Bretz, Jr. at the Christian Church in Dighton. They lived in Dighton for their first year of their marriage, then moved 2 miles north of Studley, Kansas where they lived for 63 years. In 2011 they moved to the Sheridan Estates in Hoxie, KS. Evelyn spent 5 years working at Drokes grocery in Morland, 9 years working at Studley Oil, and 29 years working at the Studley Elevator when she retired at the age of 65. After retirement she enjoyed many hours working in the garden, with her flowers and vegetables, canning for her family and fixing fence with Jr. One of Evelyn's greatest loves was her family. She told of the fun adventures she shared with her sisters and brother. Trips to Colorado, trips to Arizona and many fishing trips. She especially enjoyed visits from the grandkids and great grandkids. Evelyn was a member of Eastern Star, Sheridan County Hospital Auxillary, Studley United Methodist Church and Hoxie United Methodist Church. Evelyn is survived by one son Jan Bretz & wife Teresa of Studley, daughter-in-law Joy Bretz, Studley, sister Gladys Young of Great Bend, sister LaVona Murphy of Hill City, sister-in-law Barb Eitel of Salt Lake City, Utah; 6 grandchildren Kristina & Jason Bell of Brookville, Michael & Mollie Bretz, Jennifer & Jared Dowell, Tasha & Scott Cooper, Janel & Shane Beckman all of Hoxie and Mark & Jodi Bretz of Prairie View; 18 great grandchildren & numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceeded in death by her husband Frank Bretz, Jr., parents Pete & Retta May Eitel, son Dennis Bretz and brother Howard Eitel. Evelyn was loved by family & friends. Think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched for nothing loved is ever lost and she was loved so much. Reception: Hoxie United Methodist Church
