Emmett Alvin Ross, the second child of Emmett A . and Julia ( Smith) Ross was born October 22, 1934, on a farm near Webster Kansas He departed this life December 24, 2010, at his home in Plainville, Kansas at the age of 76. In 1952 he was in the last graduating class of Covert High School in Osborne County. He served 20 years in the US Air Force, serving two tours of duty in Viet Nam and one tour in Libya. He married Leona Burton on Plainville on September of 1964 in San Antonio, Texas. She preceded him in death in September of 1997. He is survived by two step children, Jean and husband Bill Eaves of Plainville and Buddy Beckley of Manhattan, Kansas; five step grandchildren; and eight step great grandchildren; three brothers Robert and wife Kenda of Plainville, Jack and wife Wanda of Salina, John of Hays; two sisters Olive and husband Herbert McReynolds of Osborne, Kansas, Marla and Clyde Goodman of Ft. Worth Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at the Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel in Plainville with Reverend Elton Hunter officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Plainville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9-8 Tuesday and from 9 – service time Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hays Medical Center Home Health & Hospice and may be sent in care of the Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, 409 S. Cochran 67663.
