Emery Leroy Post

August 15, 1934 — July 25, 2014

Emery Leroy Post was born August 15, 1934 to James O. and Lenna (Gregory) Post on a farm south of Woodston, KS in Rooks County. He married Glenda McCune on June 26, 1954 at the Codell Baptist Church. Emery attended school in Woodston, the Conger Country School, and Codell Elementary School graduating from Codell Rural High School in 1952. After graduation he worked for Dufek’s hauling oil field mud. In july 1960 he went to work for K-N Natural Gas Company until he retired in November of 1992. Emery was a member of the First Christian Church of Plainville. Emery loved working in the yard and garden, having one of the nicest yards in Plainville. He also loved working with wood and made several pieces of their furniture. He did wood carving which he learned by watching carvers in Branson when he visited there every fall. Many of his family members and also many friends he made over the years of traveling are owners of some of his carvings. He enjoyed camping in the mountains and the area lakes and also spending each October in Branson. He built the family’s first 2 campers which were a source of pride for him. He was a member of the Plainville Fire Department from 1960 to 2007. Although he eventually retired, he was always a fireman at heart. He helped out even after retirement when he could by taking water to the firemen fighting fires. He was always very proud that his son, grandson, son-in-law, grandson-in-law, and brother were all firemen at one time. Emery and Glenda were members of the SwingNWheels Square Dance Club for many years. They did a lot of traveling to conventions and other clubs in the area where they met and made many lifelong friends. After retirement Emery and Glenda spent their winters in Arizona where they enjoyed hiking in the Superstition Mountains, some years as many as 100 miles. He enjoyed the warm weather and friends he had made. Emery is survived by his wife Glenda of the home; son Tracy “Butch” Post and wife Lois of Plainville; daughter Rita Mendenhall and husband Rick of Garden City; brothers Doyle Post of Plainville, Edson Post and wife Madonna of Wichita, Delmar Post of Scott City, and Chuck Post and wife Patti of Concordia; sister-in-law Lucille Post of Great Bend; grandchildren Travis Mendenhall (Ginnette), Tori Crow (Rob), Heidi Zizz (Joe), and Renee Meiar (Lucas); and great-grandchildren Alexis, Rebecca, Curtis, Jaret, Grant, Madison, Kavin, Brecklyn, and Cambria. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Lenna Post; brothers James Post, and Ronald Post; and sister Vola Collins.
