Ellen Lee Lewis

March 8, 1941 — November 25, 2017

Ellen Lee Lewis, 76, from Hill City, Kansas, passed away on November 25th, 2017 at the Graham County Hospital in Hill City, Kansas. Ellen was born in Delaware, Oklahoma to Andrew (Andy) J. Sitsler and Wilda Mae (Stephens) Sitsler on March 8th, 1941. She attended school in Coffeyville, KS. She married Charles LeRoy Lewis on March 23rd, 1958 in Miami, Oklahoma. She worked as a homemaker for most of her years, with a few of those years spent working in healthcare or the restaurant business. Most of her time was spent being a caretaker for her many grandchildren, and any neighborhood kid who dropped by. She was so full of love and was never too busy for a handful of grandkids and neighborhood kids to show up at her house begging for goulash and a game of cards or Parcheesi. She took them on many adventures, or would take lunch to school and eat with them in the parking lot just so she could spend time with them that day. She never missed a sporting event, and was found many times sitting under an umbrella in 103-degree weather to watch a softball tournament. She was all of her grandkids’ biggest fan. She was also very involved with her church, 1st Southern Baptist in Hill City, KS, and found great joy in serving her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Ellen is preceded in death by a daughter, Carlo Mae Lewis, her parents, and 3 siblings. Ellen is survived by her husband, Charles LeRoy Lewis of the home; children Miranda Jo (David) McDermott of Hill City, Terry Lee (Bodie) Cooper of Hill City, Mary Janine (Kurtis) Shearer of Norton, Charles LeRoy Lewis Jr. of Hill City, and Timmy Ray (Elizabeth) Lewis of Hill City; brothers, Jimmy Rae Sitsler and Jack Paul Sitsler, sister Shirley Perkins, and 4 sister in-laws who have been a very important part of her life. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren with the 25th due to arrive in January. The family of Ellen wishes to thank Dr. David Atkins and the nurses of the Graham County Hospital and Medical Clinic who have provided her care over the years and during the end days of her life. We appreciate the care and the comfort given to Ellen and her family during those last days. Visitation and well wishes may be received at the home of Charles Lewis at 307 S. Middle St. in Hill City. No Funeral services will be held. Interment will follow at the Longton Cemetery in Longton, KS at a later date.
