Elizabeth Elaine “Betty” Bamber, 91, died Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at her home in Bogue, Kansas. Betty was born April 6, 1925 in Sheridan County, Kansas, daughter of Wilbur and Gertrude “Peggy” (Smith) Borger. She grew up on the family farm in Sheridan County. At about ten years of age Betty and Peggy moved to Hill City where Betty completed her schooling and graduated from high school. After graduation, Betty and Peggy moved to Manhattan, Kansas where Betty trained in cosmetology and received her certificate to become a beautician. Returning to Hill City, Betty worked at Kobler’s Drug Store. It was here that she met Charlie Bamber who introduced her to his son, Cecil, when he returned from the Navy. On November 14, 1948, Betty married Cecil in the First Presbyterian Church in Hill City. To this union were born two boys, Greg and Gary. Betty was a devoted wife and mother. After raising her boys into their teens, Betty returned to college to earn her CPA certificate. She worked several years as an accountant. Her greatest joy was being with and caring for her family. Cecil and Betty retired to the family farm near Bogue in 1995. They rejoined the Presbyterian Church in Hill City. Cecil and Betty were both active in the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. They enjoyed dancing and socializing with their many friends. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil; daughter-in-law, Vicki; and a granddaughter, Lynn Bamber. Betty is survived by two sons: Greg Bamber of Bogue and Gary (Kris) Bamber of Cedar Falls, Iowa; four grandchildren: Tera Williams, of Plainville, Kansas, Traci Bamber, of Bogue, Will Bamber, Iowa City, Iowa and James Bamber, Cedar Falls, Iowa; and two great-grandchildren: Addison Williams, and Layla Williams, Plainville.
