Funeral services for Douglas E. Cooper, age 80, of Woodston, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at the Woodston United Methodist Church in Woodston with Reverend Les Ellis officiating. Mr. Cooper passed away Friday, February 4, 2011 at the Prairie Haven Nursing Home in Kensington. He was born July 10, 1930 in Denver, Colorado the son of Cecil and Freda (Baxter) Cooper. Mr. Cooper was a police officer in Denver and then in Stockton. He then worked for Rooks County and was the owner of DC Auto Service in Woodston. He was a United States Army veteran serving in the Korean War as a paratrooper in the 187th Airborne. Doug attended the Woodston United Methodist Church, was a life member of the Monroe-Taylor-Barnes VFW Post #8873, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and racing cars. On July 12, 1953, he married Frankie Burnham in Denver, Colorado. She passed away September 20, 2004. Survivors include his son Tim Cooper of Stockton, Kansas; daughters Lea Ann and husband Dennis Marsh of Woodston, Linnea and husband Curtis Franklin of Stockton, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Frankie, Son Larry on March 12, 2009, and his parents. Cremation is planned and there will be no visitation. Burial will be in the Woodston Cemetery with military honors provided by the Monroe-Taylor-Barnes VFW Post #8873. Memorial contributions may be made to the Doug Cooper Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of the Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N. First, Stockton, Kansas 67669.
