Doris D. Geist

January 17, 1929 — June 27, 2015

Doris D (Lewis) Geist was born north of Hoxie on January 17, 1929 to Herbert & Almira ‘Mae’(Davis) Lewis. She was the 8th surviving child of 13 born into the family. One of her greatest accomplishments was being the only child out of the family to receive a High School Diploma, she graduated from Hoxie High School with the class of 1947. On April 19, 1948, Doris was united in marriage to Alfred Geist in Sequin, KS. They started farming and raising a family in Sheridan County. Doris had many occupations and jobs during her lifetime. They raised dogs, swine, and cattle on the farm. Later after all the kids were in school she worked as a Respiratory Therapy Aide, Medical Transcriptionist, and Nurse Aide. She started and operated her own upholstery shop on the farm, and continued that passion until her health began to fail. She volunteered for the Sheridan County Hospice, and The Swap Shop as much as possible when she was able. She was a member of the St Francis Catholic Church, and Church Sodality. She taught CCD when her children were young. Doris is survived by her three daughters: Donna German and husband Les of Elk City, OK, Barb Cooper and fiancé Steve Booker, of Plattsmouth, NE, and Jan Juenemann and husband Tom of Selden, KS: two sons: Joe Geist and wife Sheila of Tyrone, GA, and Dave Geist and wife Deb of Shawnee, KS. Seventeen grandchildren: Andy Keller, Bruce Keller and wife Edna, Jill Doman and husband James, Lisa Irwin and husband J.R., Holly Farris and husband Bullit, Daniel German and wife Katie, Jason Cooper, Jessica Moran and fiancé Jim Johnson, Belina Hobin, Anna Geist, Bethany Stiff and husband Seth, William Geist and wife Alyssia, Tyler Ayers and wife Dawn, Travis Geist and wife Jean, Samantha Juenemann, Stephanie Spresser and husband Kyle, and Leea Juenemann and twenty-five great grandchildren. Two sisters: Nettie Clear, of Fort Collins CO, Charlotte “Vonnie” Deibert and husband Frank, of Brewster, KS, One brother: Delbert Lewis and wife Norma, of Oberlin KS. Numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, Herb & Mae Lewis, her husband Alfred, daughters: Pat Keller and Bonita Palmer. Three sisters: Stella Roth, Nona Turner, and Joyce Curl. Six brothers: Elbert, Harold, Francis, Herbert, and John, and Dave Lewis. Reception: St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church
