Donald G. Schneider passed away Sunday, January 19, 2014, at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg, Kansas, at the age of 84. He was born in Norton, Kansas on October 24, 1929 to Abraham, Jr. and Ethel (Jameson) Schneider. Don attended school in Norton and graduated from Norton Community High School with the class of 1947. He went on to college at the University of Nebraska where he played football for the Cornhuskers and belonged to the Sigma Chi Fraternity. In 1951 he graduated with a bachelor’s degree. Don also served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. Don was the former co-owner and operator of Schneider Ranch. Alongside the ranch, he enjoyed raising horses and coaching pee-wee football. He loved hunting and fishing and watching his grandchildren in all their activities. Left to cherish Don’s memories are his sons, David (Shelly) of Leawood; Dwight (Susan) of Stockton; daughter, Donnell (Dale) Pfannenstiel of WaKeeney; brother, David of Hays; niece, Marsha (Richard) Haines of Stockton; four grandchildren, Sam Schneider of Kansas City, Abraham, Tate and Gracie Pfannenstiel of WaKeeney; two step-grandchildren, Blake Hamilton and Jena (David) Stunkel; and one step-great-granddaughter, Lola Stunkel. Don is preceded in death by his parents, Abraham and Ethel and his children’s mother, LaDonna Schneider. Don was a good man, with a good heart, who lived life the best he knew how. May his memory encourage us as we remember his life in its totality, and the day of judging him on anything less than his entire life comes to a close. The words of the prophet Samuel remind us, “For man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh upon the heart.”
