Don A. Wilkerson, a resident of San Diego, CA, was born in Hays, KS. Don battled cancer for the past several months and died peacefully at his home surrounded by his beloved family. Don graduated in 1981 from Plainville High School in Plainville, KS. He served his country for nine years in the U.S. Navy on submarine duty and was stationed in San Diego, CA, Goose Creek, SC and Pensacola, FL. Don graduated with the following degrees: Associate of Science in General Education and a Bachelor of Science from Troy State University and a Master of Science from Grand Canyon University. Mr. Wilkerson was an elementary school teacher and taught third grade at Miller Elementary in San Diego, CA since 1997. Don is survived by his wife, Wendy (Berreth) Wilkerson and their two daughters, Brittany and Michelle Wilkerson of San Diego, CA; two brothers, Joseph Wilkerson, Catherine, KS; Dave Wilkerson, Plainville, KS, and three sisters, Mary and her husband Duane Lang, Hays, KS; Geri Stahl, Plainville, KS; and Sharon and her husband Pete Waggoner, Plainville, KS; a sister-in-law Diana and her husband Jim Gresty, Huntington Beach, CA; along with a large assortment of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Don was predeceased by his parents, Donald E. and Ann (Feuerborn) Wilkerson; two brothers, Thomas E. Wilkerson and Kenneth G. Wilkerson and a nephew Shane Wilkerson. Don will be remembered for his incredible sense of humor by his family, friends and students. He loved all sports, especially the Kansas City Chiefs. A memorial service was held on Saturday, October 26th at Ascension Catholic Church in San Diego, California. A memorial service will also be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville, Kansas with a luncheon to follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall. A private family inurnment will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers to The Don Wilkerson Memorial Fund, for the education of his daughters Brittany and Michelle, or to Sharp Hospice. Reception: Knights of Columbus Hall
