Debra Sue “Debbie” Schellinger passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026, at Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, Kansas, following a lengthy illness.
Debbie was born on April 29, 1961, in Plainville, Kansas, to Edmond and Betty (Palmer) Eggers. She was raised in Stockton and graduated from Stockton High School with the Class of 1979. During her school years, Debbie was very active and enjoyed participating in track and volleyball, and she was also an enthusiastic supporter of football and wrestling. She later attended Fort Hays State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. While living in Tennessee, she continued her education and received her Master’s Degree in Education.
Debbie dedicated her life to teaching and caring for her students. She began her teaching career at Keams Canyon Elementary School on the reservation in Arizona, where she taught for four years. She later taught at Casa Grande Elementary School in Arizona before joining the Department of Defense Education Activity. Debbie spent several years teaching elementary students on a military base in Germany before returning to the United States. She then taught at Barkley Elementary School on the Fort Campbell military base in Kentucky, where she retired after 22 years of service.
While living in Germany, Debbie married Dennis Schellinger. The couple later divorced.
Outside of her career, Debbie enjoyed many activities and cherished the friendships she made throughout her life. She was active in 4-H during her youth and was a former member of the Stockton Saddle Club. Debbie loved attending country music concerts, horseback riding, traveling, and spending time with her dogs and horses. She was also known as a very good cook, and family always came first in her life. Sunday gatherings with family were especially important to her and became a treasured tradition over the years. Above all, Debbie treasured the time she spent with her family and friends. She was of the Lutheran faith.
Survivors include her brothers, Robert Eggers of Stockton, Kansas, and Ronald Eggers and wife Dana of Parsons, Kansas; her sister-in-law, Linda Eggers of Plainville, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edmond and Betty Eggers; her sister, Shirley Desaire; and her brothers, Richard Eggers and Terry Eggers.
