David Lee Mullins

August 16, 1961 — August 24, 2025

David Lee Mullins, aged 64, of Plainville, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home on August 24, 2025 after a long battle with cancer. Born in Frankfurt, Germany to Jack Junior and Cecilia “Sheila” (Higareda) Mullins, David's journey in life was full of adventure and love.

After marrying Shelia Melton, they were blessed with three beautiful daughters before parting ways. David's journey took a new turn in 2003 when he met Barbara Jo (Fournier) Shute in Las Vegas. Their love story brought them to Plainville in 2006, where they cherished many happy years.

David spent his early years in Illinois, attending Galesburg High School. His dedication to service led him to enlist in the United States Army, proudly serving his country with multiple tours in Hawaii, Korea, and Germany.

A man of many passions, David found joy in fishing, camping, and supporting the Denver Broncos. Known for his friendly nature, he had a knack for finding treasures at garage sales and auctions. His love for animals was evident, never without “yums yums” in his pocket for the neighborhood pets. Webster Lake was a favorite retreat for David and his beloved dogs, Maggie, Pebbles, and Pugsy.

David's legacy includes an induction into the Babe Ruth Baseball Hall of Fame—a testament to his lifelong dedication to the sport.

David is survived by his life partner, Barb, of Plainville; daughters Brandi Mullins and Toni (Michael Ray) Langford of Somerset, Kentucky; and a bonus daughter, Staci (Dayne) Shelman, of Rossville, Kansas. His twin sister, Donna (John) Kraft of Florida, brothers Mike Mullins in Somerset, Kentucky, and Gary Mullins in Austin, TX, Patricia (Dave) Mullins in Galesburg, IL, and nine wonderful grandchildren: Chloe, Kendall, AJ, Chandler, Sydney, Bryce, Wyatt, Tyson, and Wyatt Michael, also survive him, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

His parents, Jack Junior and Cecilia “Sheila” (Higareda) Mullins, brother Daniel Mullins, sister Maria Kolendar, and daughter Casey Mullins Strunk preceded him in death.
