Darrell Lee Morrissey

November 17, 1929 — August 17, 2013

Darrell L. Morrissey passed away Saturday, August 17, 2013 in the Trego Manor at WaKeeney at the age of 83. He was born on November 17, 1929 to James Leroy and Nellie Jane (Jones) Morrissey in Woodston. Darrell attended school in Woodston and graduated from Woodston High School with the class of 1948. He attended Fort Hays State for one year before finding the love of his life, Marilyn Slayton. They were united in marriage on July 24, 1949 in Ulysses, Kansas and were blessed with four children: Pamela, Jeff, Patrick, and Michael. Darrell worked for the United States Post Office for 33 years as a mail carrier. He retired in 1988. Darrell enjoyed his motorcycles and loved going on trips whenever he could. He also spent time golfing, boating, and waterskiing. Later in life much of his time was spent helping others. Darrell was a member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus where he was a charter member. Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Marilyn of the home; daughter, Pamela Davis of Dighton; sons, Jeff Morrissey and wife Lori of Wamego, Patrick Morrissey of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Michael Morrissey and wife Sheila of Pace, Florida; brother, Doug Morrissey of Salina; brother-in-law, Robert LeFort of Stockton; grandchildren, Jennifer, Joani, Bailey, Christopher, Jill, Karyn, David, Karrina, Jon, Makenzie, Ryleigh, and Jacine; 18 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, James and Nellie Morrissey; infant daughter; and sisters, Gwen Mitchum and Eleanor LeFort. Darrell was a true currier in every sense of the word. Daily he went about his life with duty, honor, and pride. The Lord has called him home and though we shall miss him greatly, neither snow nor rain, nor heat nor gloom of night shall stay him from the swift completion of his final appointed round.
