Coleen Deanna Mackey

Coleen Deanna (Schieck) Mackey died Wednesday March 5, 2014 at Select Specialties Hospital in Denver, Colorado at the age of 63. She was born July 19¸1950 to Ben and Elva Jo (Timmons) Schieck in Colby, Ks. She married Jerry Morgan in 1966 and gave birth to her son Jerry Alan Morgan in January of 1967. They divorced later that year. In 1970, she married Jerry Mackey of Madison, Kansas. She was widowed when Jerry was killed in a farm truck accident in 1973. Coleen completed her GED and went on to nursing school at Colby Community College. She completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing at Emporia State University. She began her career in nursing at Newman Hospital in Emporia before moving to the family farm near Menlo in 1984. She worked at Lantern Park Manor for a short time then found her calling at Thomas County Care Center which is now called Prairie Senior Living Complex in Colby, Kansas. She worked there for nearly 28 years before retiring due to illness in December 2013. She was preceded in death by her Brother Rodney Schieck, Husband Jerry Mackey, Father Ben Schieck, Son Jerry Morgan, Mother Elva Jo Benson, Nephew Roger Schieck, and Brother Don Schieck. Survivors include: brothers Spencer (Cathy) Schieck of Temecula, California; Stuart (Ruth) Schieck of Menlo, Kansas; Thomas (Kristina) Benson of Colby, Kansas and Michael Benson of Russell, Kansas. She is also survived by 4 nephews, 7 nieces and 16 great nieces and nephews.
