Clark Irvin Stocking

Clark Irvin Stocking, 89, of Stockton, Kansas died June 8, 2010 at the Solomon Valley Manor. Clark was born March 10, 1921 in Hiawatha, Kansas to Clark I. Stocking, Sr. and Mary (Kirby) Stocking. He graduated from Troy, Kansas High School and Los Angeles City College with a degree in Civil Engineering. He married Frances L. Albers May 7, 1942 in Van Nuys, California. Clark was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army-Air Corps in the Armanment Laboratory in Dayton, Ohio. He was discharged as Captain at the end of the war. He served as County Engineer for Doniphan, Republic and Kiowa counties in Kansas. In 1957 he became a Water Commissioner for the State of Kansas Department of Agriculture serving in Stockton and Topeka for 20 years. Prior to his retirement in 1982, he held the position of City Manager for Stockton, Kansas. He was a member of the Rotary Club in Stockton and an avid golfer. He and Frances spent several winters in Florida where he played with other golfers from across the United States. When his health began to fail, he painted wild flowers and scenic pictures. He loved to paint pictures of old farmsteads and present them to the owners. Clark and his family were members of the Main Street Christian Church. Survivors include his wife Frances of the home; two daughters, Sharon McDonald of Raytown, Missouri and Mary Locke of Niceville, Florida; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Dennis, a brother Herbert Stocking, sisters, Norma Harrod, Adah Carol Heckendorn, Verda Stocking and his parents. Memorial contributions to Main Street Christian Church or Solomon Valley Manor and may be sent in care of Smith-Moore-Overlease Funeral Home
