Chester Cleo “Chet” Baxter passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013, at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, Kansas at the age of 91. He was born in Logan, Kansas June 10, 1922 to A.R. and Irma (Reid) Baxter. Chet was married to Opal Bice June 3, 1942 in Stockton, Kansas. Chet was a member of the Main Street Christian Church and member of the Stockton VFW Post #8873. He spent 32 years in law enforcement in Kansas, Colorado and Nebraska. His last job was in Natoma in 1977 when he retired. Chet enjoyed fishing, playing pool, jokes and poker with his family on the Holidays. He loved his family, especially all his grandchildren. Chet was grateful for the last few years spent at Solomon Valley Manor because of the amazing care he was given. Left to cherish Chet’s memories are his sons, Randy Baxter and wife Alma of Falls Church, Virginia and Mark Baxter of Hutchinson, Kansas; daughters, Nancie Brummer and husband Danny of Bennington, Kansas and Rita Sander and husband Delbert of Stockton; 13 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Preceding Chet in death are his parents, A.R. and Irma; wife, Opal; daughter, Susan Chesney; and brother, Reid Baxter. Although he did not consider himself a hero, Chet’s service helped to mark a place in history where, “Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.” Visitation #2: 602 Main St. Stockton, KS 67669 Main Street Christian Church
