Charlotte Elizabeth Hayes passed away Sunday, December 30, 2012 at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville at the age of 101. She was born July 21, 1911 in West Plainville to Chalmer and Florence (Brown) Mayhew. Charlotte attended school at West Plainville and graduated from Plainville High School. She was united in marriage to Jared (Pat) Hayes October 13, 1935 in WaKeeney, Kansas. They farmed northwest of Plainville. Charlotte had a huge passion for playing Bridge and she enjoyed crocheting afghans. When her husband passed away in 1981 she continued to run the farm with the help of Greg Conway. Later, when she was unable to drive, her friends would take her out to see her crops. Left to cherish Charlotte’s memories are her daughter Joan Nibbelin and husband Pete of Brooks, Kentucky; half-brother Delmar Mayhew and wife Beverly of Maryland; half-sisters Jean Wright of Illinois, Betty Edson of Plainville and Jennie Longnecker and husband Paul; granddaughter Jacki Nibbelin and Bill Hoover of Louisville, Kentucky; and 3 great-grandchildren, Jamie, Ryan and Alex Hoover. Charlotte is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Roy (Ethyl) Mayhew, sister Gladys Cerrow, half-brother Darrell Mayhew and infant siblings. Charlotte’s death is the final test that her mission on earth is complete and her presence strengthened the lives of family and friends. Life goes on, but her memories will be in our hearts forever.
