Charlotte Ackerman

August 7, 1935 — October 1, 2015

Charlotte Ackerman, 80, of Hoxie, died October 1, 2015, at Logan County Manor. She was born August 7, 1935, to Jacob Earl (Jake) and Melvina (Goff) James on the family farm south of Studley, where she lived until the age of seven when they moved to the family farm two miles west of Hoxie. Charlotte attended the Hoxie School and graduated from Sheridan Community High School with the class of 1953. On June 7, 1953, she married William (Bill) Ackerman. Three sons were born to this union. They spent time on the east coast while Bill served in the US Army. Charlotte was a homemaker on the family farm north of Hoxie, where she also helped Bill on the farm and with their construction company. She was a hard worker and expected her boys to be hard workers too. Charlotte left the farm and moved to Hoxie in 2001. She designed her home in Hoxie to be convenient and practical. After retirement, she drove an ambulance for the Sheridan County Emergency Services and actively supported the Swap Shop in Hoxie. Charlotte had a tough, hard outer shell, but once you got through the shell she was very caring and loving. Charlotte enjoyed fishing and camping, as well as various artistic endeavors like painting and crocheting. She was always interested in community happenings and enjoyed coffee time with friends at the local “hangouts”. A police scanner near her dining room table kept her on top of the action. Charlotte is survived by her three sons, Alan Ackerman and wife Jan of Hoxie, Arlan Ackerman and wife Pam of Lexington, Nebraska, and Alvin Ackerman and wife Janice of Hays; a sister, Virginia Ziegler and husband Virgil of Park; two sisters-in-law, Bette James and Betty James both of Hoxie; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren); and one great-great grandson (another on the way); and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; and brothers, Marvin James, Dale James, Jake James, and Don James. Never one to just sit back and wait for things to happen, Charlotte loved life and lived it to the fullest. She was an inspiration of commitment and hard work, faith in God, and love for family and friends. In the hearts of those who knew her best, she will never be forgotten
