Charline (Padlasek) Stoppel, 94, of Wilson, KS, passed away on February 11, 2025, at the Ellsworth County Medical Center in Ellsworth, KS.
Born on October 8, 1930, to Charles and Irma (Pecival) Padlasek in Ellsworth County, Charline’s life was defined by love, hard work, and a deep commitment to family and community. On May 20, 1951, she married the love of her life, Ray Stoppel, and together they had four children: Mary Louise, Charles Christian, Nancy Rae, and David Charles.
Charline’s roots ran deep in Wilson, where she grew up and graduated from Wilson High School in 1948. From a young age, she worked side-by-side with her father on the family dairy farm, developing a strong work ethic that would stay with her throughout her life. After high school, she moved to Ellsworth, where she worked at Erhardt’s and for Dr. Brown, DDS. Once married, Charline returned to Wilson, where she embraced the joys and challenges of farming and raising their children. Her dedication didn’t stop there; she also worked at the nursing home, for Dr. Cooney, spent more than 20 years at Klema’s in Wilson, and even served for a year as a city cop and judge.
Charline’s heart for service extended to her community, where she was a trusted leader and tireless volunteer. She served as President of the Wilson Women’s Bowling Association, President of the Senior Center, and Treasurer, all while actively contributing to the Ellsworth County Council on Aging, Ellsworth County Economic Development, and the City Council. Charline’s faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she served as an Elder at the Presbyterian Church. She took great pride in helping organize Wilson’s annual festival. Her sense of loyalty, hard work, and genuine care for others were felt by all who knew her. As the Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith,” and Charline did just that, always fighting for what mattered most—her family, her faith, and her community.
Outside of her many roles, Charline was a woman of joy and adventure. She loved bowling, playing cards, collecting coins and traveling, but nothing brought her more happiness than watching her grandchildren play sports. She was an incredible grandmother, creating scrapbooks and quilts for each grandchild, leaving behind treasures that will be cherished for generations. Charline had a passion for trying new things, and her room full of clowns and many adventurous hobbies were a testament to her vibrant personality.
Even in her 80s, Charline was not one to slow down. She continued to help on the farm, filling the drill and running the 4-wheel tractor. Her energy and spirit were truly remarkable. Charline was the embodiment of resilience, always willing to try new things and face challenges head-on. She never stopped giving, loving, or living life to its fullest.
Charline leaves behind her son, David (Stephanie) Stoppel of Wilson; six grandchildren: Ryan (Randi) Stoppel, Kylie (Mitch) Keeley, Jake (Kamri) Stoppel, Kristi King (Matt McClintic), Nicki King (Armand Davatolhagh), Jami King (Ty Ravenstein); and eight great-grandchildren, Ronni and Ray Stoppel, Lainey Keeley, Neely and Zand Davatolhagh-King, Jonathon and Scarlett Ravenstein, and Jaxson King. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; and her children, Mary, Charles (stillborn), and Nancy (Jim) King.
