Charles Lee Welch

Charles Lee Welch passed away on Friday, July 8, 2022 at the Logan County Manor in Oakley, Kansas at the age of 72. He was born on February 28, 1950 to Arthur and Joan (White) Welch in Covington, Virginia. Charles grew up in Globe, Arizona and graduated from Globe High School in 1968. He furthered his education at Northern Arizona University majoring in English. Charles was a talented singer and sang in a choir as well as bowled competitively in several leagues. He met and married Wilma Welch on October 3, 1998 at the Methodist Church in Woodston, Kansas. The couple made their home in Winkleman, Arizona until he retired from ASARCO mining as a chemist in 2003. They returned to Rooks County where they resided in Woodston and later relocated to Stockton, and finally, Plainville. Charles was a hardworking, loving, and dedicated family man. He loved what he did and did what he loved. Although he will be greatly missed, his life, his love, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. In the words of his favorite Gospel singer Bill Gaither, “I’ve been blessed. This has been a great journey and a great trip.” He is survived by his children, James and Pamela of AZ; sister, Shae (Dan) Mercado of Oracle, AZ; brother-in-law, Garold (Judy) Holcombe of Maud, OK; nieces, Melissa (John) Weidow of Geronimo, OK, Christina (Robert) Henson, Danielle (Mark) Peterson; nephew, John (Dr. Brianne) Holcombe of Madison, AL; great-nephews, John Weidow, Trenton Holcombe, Rhylan Holcombe, Cody Ollson, JJ Paxton, Anthony Henson; great-nieces, Alyssa Ollson, Amya Peterson, Hayley Henson; great-great-nephews Zander Ollson, Zaedyn Ollson, Mario Henson; as well as cousins in the surrounding Rooks County Area. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Joan Welch; wife, Wilma Welch; and a brother and sister-in-law, David Leon and Carol Jean Holcombe. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022, starting at 10 AM at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home in Stockton. Memorials are suggested to the High Plains Humane Society and may be sent in care of Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 North First, Stockton, KS 67663.
