Charles W Stahl

Charles W. Stahl was born November 10, 1933 to William and Anna (Toelkes) Stahl in Hays, Kansas. He passed away Friday, September 28, 2012 in Hays, Kansas. Charles attended school in Plainville, KS and graduated from Plainville High School with the class of 1951. He graduated with a degree in education and a Masters in Administration from Fort Hays State University. Charles found his love for football in high school and went on to become a 4 year letterman at Fort Hays State University. He also played football in the Army. On January 7, 1957 Charles was united in marriage to Donna Cole. To this union 5 sons were born. Steve, Chuck, Chris, Tony and William. Charles enlisted in the Army with active service during the Korean Conflict from 1954-56 and remained in reserve status until he was honorably discharged in 1962. Charles began his teaching career in Paradise, KS and also taught in the communities of Codell, Natoma and Logan, KS. He was a school administrator for USD 269 in Palco, Damar and Zurich, KS for 28 years, retiring in 1992. Charles also farmed and ranched for many years with Donna and his boys working by his side. He loved to take his family camping and fishing. Over the years he enjoyed restoring antique cars, but family was his most prized possession. Charles was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, V.F.W. Reeder-Dinkel-Westhusin Post #8871 and the American Legion. He was a past member and president of the Lion’s Club in Palco, KS. Charles is survived by his wife, Donna, his sons Steve (Rhonda) and Chuck (Stephanie) of Hays, Chris (Martha) of Wichita, Tony (Brenda) of Topeka and William (Tausha) of Plainville; brother-in-law William (Celesta) of Phoenix, Arizona; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Preceding Charles in death are his parents. Charles had a deep love for his family. He was a wonderful husband and father. His devotion to his wife and children will never be forgotten. May all the precious memories of Charles be a blessing to all of us.
