Cecelia Marie Ottley

August 24, 1921 — July 21, 2015

Cecelia Marie (Untereiner) Ottley passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at the Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care, in Quinter, Kansas at the age of 93. She was born to Joseph and Elizabeth (Munsch) Untereiner on August 24, 1921 in Sheridan County, Kansas. Cecelia attended the Red Line School in rural Sheridan County. On December 20, 1942, she was united in marriage to Clifford Quakenbush in Hill City, Kansas. They were blessed with four children, David, Donald, Melvin and Linda. Clifford passed away as the result of an accident on June 21, 1953. On May 5, 1957 Cecelia married Obie Martin in Colby, Kansas. They were blessed with one daughter, Esther. They later divorced. On July 18, 1964, Cecelia married Arnold Ottley. He preceded her in death October 12, 1989. She continued to make her home in Sheridan County until moving to the Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care in July of 2014. She was a life-long member of the Catholic Church. Cecelia was a hardworking woman who never shied away from any job that needed to be done. She worked for many years as the dishwasher at Della’s Café and spent many great joy filled hours volunteering at the Hoxie Swap Shop. Cecelia loved to play cards, especially pinochle, and Bingo was another of her favorite pastimes. If you could not find her, chances are she was playing Bingo or cards. She also loved going to auctions, finding “treasurers,” and bringing them home to share with her family. She was a great homemaker and a wonderful cook, skilled at frying chicken, and a pro at making sure there was always Tang and Diet Rite Cola in the house. Cecelia is survived by her sons, David and wife Kathy Quakenbush of Gorham, Kansas, Donald Quakenbush of Seguin, Kansas, and Melvin and wife Teresa Quakenbush of Ronan, Montana; daughters, Linda Bowen and husband Dale of Goodland, Kansas and Esther Armkenecht and husband James of Bouge, Kansas; nineteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren; a sister, Frances Quakenbush of Hoxie, Kansas; and a sister-in-law Evelyn McWain of Quincy, Washington. Cecelia was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Untereiner; husbands, Clifford Quakenbush, Obie Martin, and Arnold Ottley; brother, Paul Untereiner; sisters, Clara Tubbs, Josephine Jordan, Rose Barr, Edna Camden, and Anna; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren. Above all else, the love of Cecelia’s life was her family, especially her children and grandchildren. No sacrifice was ever a burden for they truly were the objects of her total joy and affection. She was a loving and caring woman who was honored and cherished by her family and friends alike. Cemetery: Private Family Interment at a later date. Reception: St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church
