C. Carl Gaede

August 17, 1929 — August 26, 2016

Christian Carl Gaede passed away on Friday, August 26, 2016 at the Gove County Medical Center LTC in Quinter, Kansas at the age of 87 years and 9 days. He was born on August 17, 1929 in Hoxie, Kansas, to the late Christian “Chris” E. and Amanda M. (Brandhorst) Gaede. Carl was welcomed into the family of God by baptism September 1, 1929 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. His confirmation followed on April 18, 1943. He was a dedicated lifelong member of the church, serving as an elder, President of the Congregation, and holding numerous other offices and positions. Carl attended elementary school, grades first through eighth, at Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School. He graduated from Sheridan Community High School with the Class of 1947 and went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Arleda Ehlers on April 5, 1953 at Zion Lutheran Church in Lahoma, Oklahoma. Together, they made their home on a farm near Hoxie. Carl spent his life working as a farmer and stockman. Carl served 27 years on the board of the former Hoxie COOP & Oil Company, serving in several capacities including President of the Board. He was also on the Sheridan County Fair Board, where he helped with improvements to the grounds and buildings. He was an active leader with the Hoxie Go-Getters 4-H Club and was the Grand Marshall of the Sheridan County Fair Parade in 2003. But as much as he enjoyed all of these activities, the greatest joy of his life was spending time with the greatest love of his life, his wife and family. Carl is survived by his wife Arleda Gaede of the home; daughter, Cindie Streck and husband Pat of Ellinwood, Kansas; son, Grant Gaede and wife Rhonda of Hoxie, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Shirley Gaede of San Antonio, Texas, and Joann Gaede of Pasadena, Texas; grandchildren, Stuart and Jenifer Streck of John’s Creek, Georgia, Tim and Tyra Streck of Newton, Kansas, Alex and Megan Gaede of Hoxie, Kansas, Kelly and Katie Streck of Elgin, Oklahoma, Erik and Courtney Gaede of Hoxie, Kansas, Scott and Amy Streck of Spring Hill, Kansas, and Josh and Kim Gaede of Salina, Kansas; and ten great-grandchildren with one more expected in October. He was preceded in death by his parents Chris and Amanda Gaede, brothers Robert and Richard Gaede, sister Phyllis Karnes and brother-in-law, Edward Karnes. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hoxie, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers to the Lutheran Hour, Sheridan County Historical Society, or Sheridan County Fair Board (contributions to go for building/grounds) and may be sent in care of Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, PO Box 987, Hoxie, Kansas 67740. On-line condolences may be left at www.mickeyleopoldfuneral.com Carl was a hardworking man of faith, loyalty, and love for God, family, friends and neighbors. Although he will be greatly missed, having been a faithful steward of the many blessings in his life, we rejoice as he reaches the gates of heaven hearing the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of the Lord.”
