Beulah Waters passed from this life on July 24, 2016 at home on the farm in rural Rooks County, Kansas. She lost her bout with cancer at the age of 96. She was born on February 7, 1920 the second of four daughters, to Charles and Eunice (Selbe) McCormick. Born and raised on the farm southwest of Webster, Kansas she attended school in Webster and graduated with the Class of 1938. After high school, Beulah acquired her Teaching Certificate and began teaching school at the Country School in the Alcona Township of Rooks County. On April 30, 1939 she was united in marriage to Vernon Waters at the Osborne County Court House in Osborne, Kansas. To this union were born two sons, Gerald and Rick; and three daughters, Sharon, Karen, and Dianne. Early in their marriage, Beulah and Vernon ran the filling station just a mile west of Stockton, Kansas. After the beginning of World War II, they moved to Wichita, Kansas where Vernon began working for Boeing building gliders. They moved back to Rooks County in 1944 and eventually made their home northwest of Stockton where they raised their family. Later, when Vernon’s health began to decline they moved to Stockton for health reasons. He passed away in 1979, just short of their 41st wedding anniversary. Beulah was always an active part of operating and working on the farm, even after moving to town. She also took on a newspaper route, and began working in the area nursing homes. After retiring she worked several years in home health care for many people. In addition, she worked as a cook for a couple of different places, and sewed and patched clothing for people when needed. She was well known for her fried chicken and homemade bread, and took up quilting, making numerous quilts for family and loved ones. She had a poodle named Snappy who was a large part of her life for 19 years, but most especially found pleasure being around her grandchildren when they came to visit. As her own health declined, she moved back to the farm to live out her days with her son Rick and his family. Beulah is survived by her son Rick Waters and wife Linda of Stockton; daughters Sharon Atherton and husband Alvin of Stockton, Karen Odle and husband Bobby of Stockton, and Dianne Becker and husband Gail of Plainville; sister Ruth Miller of Stockton; grandchildren Lorri and Mick Smyth, Ryan and Danielle Becker, Rod and Martha Becker, Rance Becker, Tina Coast, Shawn and Jenn Coast, Vernon Waters, Darrin and Trinity Atherton, Teresa and Bob Glendening, Dustin and Sharra Odle, and Rustin and Holly Odle; great-grandchildren Caxton, Braxton, Traxton, Reece, Braylon, Brianna, Lanie, Lia, Bella, Jace, Joseph, Klayton, Ethan, Gabriel, Jordan, Jeremy, Karsen, Sidney, Michaela, Dakota, and Brenna; and 5 great-great-garandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents Charles and Eunice McCormick, husband Vernon Waters, infant son Gerald, and sisters Mabel Lowry and Neva Holcomb. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home in Stockton. Burial will follow at the Stockton Cemetery.
