Betty Lou "Chappell” McClelland passed away December 23, 2012 at the Cheney Golden Age Home in Cheney, KS at the age of 81. She was born July 4, 1931 in Augusta, KS to George and Lola Belle "Arnold" Chappell. Betty attended schools in Augusta. Betty married Everett E. McClelland February 14, 1948 in Newton, KS. They were blessed with 2 daughters, Terrial Lynn in December 1948 and Rhonda Jean in June 1963. They lived in Texas, Great Bend, Augusta, Wakeeney, and few other towns before settling in Plainville in 1967. Betty was very much involved with Girl Scouts with her daughters, granddaughters, and great granddaughter. She held several positions from leader up to council board. She was a sponsor on several GS trips to the East Coast and to special GS camp in Wyoming. Her whole troop earned the highest award, 1st class scouts, and was honored with the "Thanks Badge" which is the highest adult award. Majority of the time she was a homemaker; which she enjoyed being because it allowed her to do activities with the girls as they grew up. Betth had a few jobs which include Baxter Travenol, a grocery store, and a mail insert factory before retiring. She loved crafting and sewing and made several outfits and costumes for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed camping and traveling and visited two foreign countries and all but 2 states. The family also hosted exchange students from Japan and Germany. Betty was a member of Order of Eastern Star, VFW, Red Hat Society, MNO, Stitch & Chatter, and Rookies Camping Club and held offices in some of the groups. Betty is survived and missed by her daughters; Terrial Malin of Hays,KS and Rhonda (Jay) Fletcher of Cheney, KS. A sister; Barbara Ehret of Augusta, KS. Grandchildren: Shawn (Carla) Hearld, Justin (Sarah) Hearld, Angie (Lance) Armbruster, Jarrod Fletcher, and Kylie Fletcher. Great grandchildren: Derek and Hannah Hearld, Cheyenne and Sage Armbruster and Lakota and Cholie Hearld, and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Everett and her parents George & Lola. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Christian Church in Plainville at 4:00 p.m. Visitation will be Monday, December 28, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 pm until 7:00 p.m. at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home in Plainville. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association or Girl Scouts of America and may be sent in care of Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 320 SW. 2nd ST. Plainville, KS 67663.
