Bert W. Hays

Funeral services for Bert W. Hays, age 83, of Hays, formerly of Plainville will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2011 at the Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel in Plainville with Father Joel Maiorano officiating. Mr. Hays passed away Monday, February 7, 2011 at his home in Hays. He was born September 20, 1927 in Leon, Kansas the son of Ferril and Gladys (Bishop) Hays. He graduated from El Dorado High School in 1945 and attended Tulsa University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Mr. Hays served his country in the United States Navy during WWII, was an avid hunter, and enjoyed fishing. For forty years, Bert worked for Farmland Industries in Plainville as an engineer until retiring in 1985. On June 18, 1945, he married Margaret Holladay in Eldorado, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his son Ervene and wife Lorna Hays of Plainville; 2 grandchildren Bryan and Addie; and 4 great grandchildren Izak, Elijah, Kobe, Zayvier. He was preceded in death by his sister Donna Mae and a brother Jim Hays. Cremation is planned and the burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 9 – 8 Thursday, and from 9 – service time Friday at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Autism Speaks; the Plainville Rec. Commission; or the Plainville Wrestling Club and may be sent in care of the Moore-Overlease Funeral Chapel, 409 S. Cochran, Plainville, Kansas 67663.
