Arthur E. “JR” McDowell, Jr. passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at his home in Stockton, Kansas at the age of 68. He was born in Bloomington, Nebraska June 9, 1945 to Arthur E. and Mary Louise (Paulsen) McDowell. JR graduated from Woodston High School in 1963. He was a great athlete for the Woodston Coyotes. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Philippines & Japan in the years leading up to and including the very beginning of the Vietnam War. JR was married to Cynthia Riffel June 1, 1969 in Stockton. They were blessed with 2 children: Nicole and Wade. JR was an electrician and plumber for many years. He worked for Norton Decatur Electric as a Lineman and then owned his own company, McDowell Electric, since 1982. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #8873, Stockton. JR enjoyed fixing his children’s homes, camping and watching his grandkids’ sports. He often volunteered his time to help others. He was always looking for something to do and often would say, “Don’t waste me!” Preceding JR in death are his parents, Arthur and Mary McDowell; brothers, Ronald and Donald McDowell; and sister, Nancy Thayer. Left to cherish JR’s memory are his wife, Cynthia of the home; daughter, Nicole McDowell and Brian Cullum of Leawood; son, Wade McDowell and wife Suzie of Hill City; brother, Robert McDowell of Stockton; and 4 grandchildren, Lexie, Aaron and Brody McDowell and Imani Cullum.
