Arthur Anton Budig

Arthur Anton Budig was born on June 26, 1922 on the family farm near Redwing, Kansas; the third son of ten children born to Anton Patrick and Elnore Marie (Mauller) Budig. Art started country school when he was seven years of age and attended parochial school from the 2nd grade until after his first communion. He finished his schooling at the country school. At the age of 17, Art went into the Civilian Conservation Corp and went to Idaho and helped build the road along the Salmon River. Jobs were hard to come by and at the age of 18 he worked on a dairy farm making .50/day and that included his room and board. He continued to help his dad harvest wheat and at the age of 20 Art was drafted into the United States Army Air Corp. His first job was training pilots to shoot and drop bombs. Art wanted to be a tail gunner but he was denied because he was color blind. After honorably serving his country during World War II, he was honorably discharged in January of 1946. Art was united in marriage to Viola Regina Dreiling on August 17, 1946 in Plainville, Kansas. They made their home in Plainville and were blessed with eleven children. Art worked in all aspects of the oilfield, but he mostly worked as a Driller. The family moved to Woodward in 1972 and Art has lived in Woodward since that time. Viola preceded him in death on January 24, 1996. On March 1, 1997, Art was united in marriage to Noreen Mosier at the St. Peter Catholic Church in Woodward. He gained seven step-children and numerous grandchildren. Art and Noreen had a special bond and they spent 18 wonderful years together. They enjoyed traveling, especially the road trips they took together all over the country. Art loved being with his family and always enjoyed his time with them. He is survived by his wife Noreen Budig of their home in Woodward; Art’s children, Jack Budig of Hill City, Kansas, David Budig and wife Patti of Lewis, Kansas, Doug Budig of Russell, Kansas, Robert Budig and wife Laurie of Piedmont, Sharon Arnhold of Woodward, Kathy Bullard of Owasso; Noreen’s children, Dan Mosier and wife Sandy of Lincoln, Nebraska, Carol Cramer and husband David of Woodward, Mary Farmer and husband Art of Flagstaff, Arizona, Susan Musgrove and husband Ken of Woodward, Darla McNeal and husband Grant of Cushing, Judy Corrigan and husband Ron of Temple, Texas; 47 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Katherine McGrath of Concord, California, Lenora Hutton of Great Bend, Kansas, Beatrice Axman of Oden, Kansas, Helen Stos of Oden, Kansas, one brother Bernard Budig of Pleasant Hills, California; numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends. Art was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Viola, his children Nick Budig in 1961, daughter Eleanor Budig in 1973, Arthur Budig Jr. in 1995 and his daughter Janice Budig in 2012, Noreen’s son, Kenny Mosier in 2006.
