Amy Michaele (Cairns) Russell passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 45. She was born on February 26, 1970 in Hays, Kansas to Jim and Gloria (Stremel) Cairns. She graduated from Bazine High School in Bazine, Kansas with the Class of 1988. She was united in marriage to Gary Russell on July 19, 2008 at one of her favorite places, Wilson Lake. Amy loved being outside and spending time with those she loved most, her family and friends. She enjoyed taking hikes, swimming at the lake, and going on long walks, especially with her beloved dogs. She even liked being on the archery range, helping Gary practice for hunting season. IN the past she worked for USD 399, and had recently gone back to school at Fort Hays State University where she was to receive her philosophy degree in the spring. Amy is survived by her husband Gary Russell of their home in Natoma; sons Dylan Jacobs of Hays and Cash Russell of Natoma; mother Gloria Schwindt and husband Dale of Alexander; father Jim Cairns and girlfriend Gloria Herrman of Hays; brothers Michael Cairns of Hays, and Devin Schwindt of Wichita; sister Kerie Schwindt of Alexander; and grandparents Ruby (Dome) Karlin and John W. Karlin of Hillsboro, Oregon; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, the Rev. Joseph Russell and Grace Cairns, Clifford James Stremel and Harry and Dorothea Schwindt. Amy had a huge heart full of love. Her laughter, her smile, and her spirit left a trail of joy no matter where she went or who she was with. Although she left us way too soon, her life will leave a legacy that will live on for generations to come. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February13, 2016 at the Historic Presbyterian Church in Natoma, KS. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
